The text on the left is hand-set and printed on a printing press. I also designed the frame, which was made into a custom printing plate, hand-inked, and printed onto the page. The text on the right is set digitally, since CMU didn't have Cyrillic lead type. 11x8.5 inches. 2012

The goal of the project was to explore different modifications to a simple Roman minuscule hand.




This is my favorite page because it is written backwards.
I really wanted to get into a calligraphy class, and I wrote this angsty teenager poem in a "fancy" hand to impress the teacher, so that she may let me in the class. Of course, I had sent it via e-mail, which I didn't realize she never checked, so it took 2 more years before I ended up in her class. 2009
